European shares weak in early trading

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares were in a tight range in early trading on Friday ahead of U.S. GDP data, although Alcatel-Lucent , up 6.2%, and EADS , up 1.4%, posted strong earnings-related gains. The U.K. FTSE 100 index traded flat at 5,312.99, the German DAX index also traded flat at 6,133.24 while the French CAC-40 index edged up 0.1% at 3,655.29.
